became known as “La Cour Parfumée” — The Perfumed
Court — as fragrance took on a central role in daily life at
Marly.
Fragrance was everywhere, from furniture and gloves to
wigs and fans. Most surprisingly, even the fountains and
pets were lavishly scented.
